Detroit Red Wings: Could Steve Yzerman revisit a Dylan Larkin trade?
The Detroit Red Wings got their teeth kicked in a bit by the Senators in their back-to-back matchups in Ottawa. They lost big in the opener of the two games and then got pummeled in the second go-round.
This could cause a drastic switch-up in the Detroit Red Wings trade deadline plans. Now, as little as a week ago and before the All-Star Break, there were still some thoughts that Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin could be used as a trade chip.
Steve Yzerman will make the moves that he sees as the best fit for this organization, and it seems very unlikely, but the way this deadline season has gone, the Red Wings may be able to reap a massive return for Larkin on the trade market.
I’ll be the first to admit that I still think it’s a bit unlikely, but I would surely not put it past Yzerman to jump on a deal that nets the Red Wings a big chunk of assets in the form of draft capital or prospects.
Detroit Red Wings could be pondering a Dylan Larkin trade.
After all, many players and assets have changed hands during the 2022-23 trade deadline season. But, the rumored suitor for Larkin originally was the Boston Bruins. They had reportedly checked in on the availability of the Red Wings captain and were discussing options with Yzerman.
Since then, the Bruins have continued to win and prove why they are one of the most dangerous teams in the league. But they have not made any major moves this deadline season. Even perennial competitors like the Tampa Bay Lightning have made some moves.
The Bruins did acquire forward Garnet Hathaway and defenseman Dmitry Orlov from the Washington Capitals, but they may want the extra firepower that Larkin could bring. After all, the Red Wings captain has been a real producer for them in 2022-23.
Larkin has played in 58 games, with 22 goals and 35 assists for 57 total points for the Red Wings. The idea of trading Larkin seems a bit out there, but with things likely to shift drastically and the two sides still yet to agree on an extension, Larkin could very well become a trade chip.
The Red Wings may be able to bring home a ton on the other end of a deal, and if the right deal comes up, Yzerman will pull the trigger. Plenty of time before Friday; keep an eye on the Red Wings as the trade deadline approaches.
