Detroit Red Wings' fans will definitely keep following the Quinn Hughes talk unless a trade is made to another team or if the Vancouver Canucks keep him around. But with a rebuild looming, Vancouver could look to pawn off all its stars, Hughes included.
That means a lot of us have had our own opinions on the matter, and rightfully so: it's been the talk of Hockeytown lately. Bob Heyrman wrote an excellent thought piece on the trade buzz itself and what the potential cost could be for the Red Wings should they land Hughes.
I also weighed in on it, feeling that a trade for Quinn Hughes wouldn't work with Steve Yzerman in charge because it would mean trading away players he had in his long-term plans. Yzerman has been very conservative with making such big trades outside of acquiring Alex DeBrincat, and he would likely hesitate before dishing out heavy future compensation and young talent for Hughes.
Nestor Quixtan also made his thoughts known about what a potential trade would mean, believing that, if the Wings acquired Hughes, it wouldn't help them as much as some may think.
Detroit Red Wings gearing to kick off a road trip and other tidbits
Michael Coyle wrote an excellent piece regarding the Red Wings' road trip that kicks off on Thursday night. He elaborated on how important this trip will be for the Wings and how it could shape their playoff chances. And with the races starting to heat up between contenders and pretenders, it's very likely this will be one of the season's turning points.
Bob Heyrman also wrote up a thought piece on what could make calling up goaltender Sebastian Cossa a good decision for the Red Wings, but he also listed potential drawbacks. John Gibson, despite an admirable performance in Tuesday's win over the Boston Bruins, has yet to find traction, and Cam Talbot has been up and down. So, is Cossa the answer?
Patrick Kane has broken a few records already during his time with the Red Wings, and he's about to break another one. In Tuesday's win, Kane tied Mike Modano for most multi-point games by an American-born player, and one more big outing will give him the record.
So, with midseason on the horizon, there's a lot to talk about regarding the Red Wings. Will Quinn Hughes be up for grabs, and will Steve Yzerman shock fans with a trade? How will the Wings perform in what will be their longest road trip of the season? Is Cossa the answer in Hockeytown, and when will Patrick Kane break that record? It will be an exciting few weeks.
