Red Wings News: Prospect keeps impressing, Alex DeBrincat wins Second Star, game day

There is a lot going on with the Detroit Red Wings these days, all over the organization. From the prospects in Sweden to the big club.

Whether he's scoring goals or knocking around opponents, Detroit Red Wings prospect Eddie Genborg just won't stop giving fans a reason to think he will be with the big club in a few years. His latest antic involved an outstanding play when he went on the forecheck and let an opponent know of his presence.

The player in question, SHL veteran Christian Folin, may have thought he could take the rookie on the forecheck. But Genborg delivered a crushing hit that knocked the puck loose. It's plays like these that get you recognized, even if Genborg has enjoyed solid production when his team, Timra IK, has the puck.

So far in 2025-26, Genborg has appeared in 20 games, putting up seven goals and 13 points for Timra. If he keeps up this pace, he will finish with 34 points and 18 goals across 52 contests.

Alex DeBrincat's legendary week

Alex DeBrincat could be on his way to a career-best outing in 2025-26 if he keeps up this stellar play. On Monday, he earned another accolade for his resume when the NHL recognized him as its Second Star of the Week after he put up six points in three games, including five goals and three power-play goals.

The goal-scoring outburst brings DeBrincat's total to nine on the season, and he has 21 points across 19 contests. He's on more than a point-per-game trajectory, something he hasn't accomplished since the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season.

Detroit Red Wings season continues

The Red Wings have a tough opponent coming to town in the Seattle Kraken. Initially thought to be a team in rebuilding mode, the Kraken are tied with the Anaheim Ducks for second in the Pacific Division. They have 23 points on the year, a 9-4-5 record, and are one of the best defensive teams in hockey, allowing just 48 goals so far in 2025-26.

If the Wings can get the win, they will be back in first place in the Atlantic with the Boston Bruins losing to the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday night. Should the Wings take it, they will just keep building momentum for the final two games of their mini homestand, which includes contests against the New York Islanders and Columbus Blue Jackets.

Other Red Wings news

Is it time for Cam Talbot to be the Red Wings' undisputed starter at goaltender? There is a case to be made, given the way he has been far more consistent than John Gibson. Should Gibson keep putting up subpar play, and if Talbot has another stellar performance in him, then the Red Wings need to make the switch.

In case you still haven't heard, the Red Wings-Rangers matchup from Sunday night ended in a rather festive fashion after Mason Appleton and Rangers' goaltender Jonathan Quick started getting into it. That one will surely spill some bad blood for upcoming meetings between two teams celebrating their 100th anniversaries.

Speaking of that big win, it's worth giving Lucas Raymond some recognition. Raymond was nothing short of sensational in that game, putting up a goal and an assist in the big win. Is this a sign that he's about to take over games when needed? It's worth keeping an eye on.
