The Detroit Red Wings pulled out a gutsy 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers on Sunday night. The win was a much-needed one after a brutal 5-4 defeat at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres the night before.
The Red Wings came out hard, pounding the Rangers from the get-go. The effort was evident as the Wings outshot the Rangers 42-19.
But beyond the lopsided shot count, one player stood out: Lucas Raymond. Raymond single-handedly sank the Rangers. His efforts led to both Red Wings’ goals. With the game scoreless in the second, Raymond had apparently scored a power play goal.
However, Alex DeBrincat tapped the puck home, getting credit for the tally. Here’s a look at the goal as shown on the Red Wings’ official X account:

The goal came from a nifty pass from Patrick Kane to the right of the Rangers’ net. But it was Raymond’s shot that beat Rangers’ netminder Jonathan Quick. DeBrincat made sure the puck found the back of the net.
But if that wasn’t enough, Raymond undressed Rangers’ defenseman Carson Soucy on one of the filthiest plays seen this season.

Raymond certainly got credit for this one, his fifth of the season. Most importantly, it was the game-winner. Raymond’s efforts earned him the game’s first star. Cam Talbot earned the third start after stopping 18 shots on the night.
Talbot solid in Red Wings win
Cam Talbot had another solid outing for the Red Wings. Talbot’s performance was just what the team needed after Saturday night’s blown 4-1 lead. John Gibson was on the wrong end of the Sabres' epic comeback.
But on Sunday night, it was all Talbot. While Lucas Raymond single-handedly beat the Rangers, it was Talbot who held the fort. Talbot managed to keep the game in check after Mika Zibanejad tied the game following DeBrincat’s goal.
Talbot then shut the door in the third period amid the Rangers’ late push. It’s worth noting that the Red Wings outshot the Rangers 14-3 in the final frame. But the game came down to the final two minutes or so when the Rangers pulled the goalie.
In the end, the Red Wings got a much-needed bounce-back performance from their goaltender. Talbot should have gotten the game’s first star as he bought the club enough time to get the game-winner.
The Wings will be looking to build on the strong effort on Tuesday night as they host the Seattle Kraken at the Little Caesars Arena.
