Detroit Red Wings seem to be Bruins kryptonite this season
The Detroit Red Wings may have some things to work on with their own game, but their performances against the Boston Bruins have been remarkable. Looking at the season slate, Detroit is ahead 2-1 in terms of a straight win/loss record.
Maybe it’s not total kryptonite, but the Detroit Red Wings handed the Bruins their first regulation loss of the 2023-24 season a few weeks ago. Then, on Black Friday, they handed them their second regulation loss of the campaign.
While the Bruins took it to Detroit, defeating them 4-1 in the season’s first matchup, Detroit learned from their mistakes and has owned the matchup since then. Watching the Red Wings step up to the task against Boston and get the job done has been impressive.
It may not seem like it matters much, but stealing points from a divisional opponent could play a significant role in the home stretch. For whatever reason, Detriot’s gotten the best of Boston in the last two matchups, while the rest of the league has not been able to beat Boston.
Detroit Red Wings are kryptonite to the Bruins.
The Red Wings organization has some holes and areas that they need to improve upon, but against Boston, they have been able to piece it all together. It’s been a well-rounded effort, too. Dylan Larkin and David Perron have each scored a couple of goals in the season series.
Detroit has been firing on all cylinders when playing Boston, which has resulted in Detroit’s being 2-1 against them and Detroit leading 4-3 in the points battle between the two. Boston stole a point in the Red Wings OT win if you view it that way, but it still took some points off the board for Boston.
This sounds like a lot of menial talk, but come playoff time, it will matter. Boston may slaughter everyone to a No. 1 seed, but Detroit will need all the points they can get if they want to grab a playoff spot in 2023-24.
Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde has the team turning things around as of late, which is nice. Especially after a bit of a skid, the Red Wings seemingly put the pieces back together, and Detroit showed that with their win over the Bruins.
On top of that, Detroit only has one more game against the Bruins this season, and it is next month on New Year’s Eve. Hopefully, the Red Wings can end the season series with Boston on a high note, getting the tough matchup out of the way early on.
They have had Boston’s number so far, so maybe Detroit can continue to be Boston’s kryptonite.
