91. 2. 72. Final. 5

Chants of “Fire Blashill” were heard in Little Caesars Arena during the final moments of another disappointing Detroit Red Wings loss Friday night.

The Detroit Red Wings dropped their 33rd regulation contest of the year, and their 42nd overall. Failing to record a point, the Detroit Red Wings finished the game not only without a point but in a 5-2 loss to Atlantic division rival, the Ottawa Senators.

1st Period

Five minutes into the first period, the Red Wings went on the powerplay, which represented a chance to take an early lead against a struggling team. Instead of the Wings capitalizing on the man advantage, though, the Senators’ Austin Watson put one past Alex Nedeljkovic on a short-handed rush. A shot that you’d like to have a save on was the only tally after one, and the Sens went to the locker room with a 1-0 lead.

2nd Period

The Red Wings responded to the Sens late first period tally just under a period later. Rookie, Lucas Raymond, was rewarded for crashing the net, banging home a rebound from a Jake Walman shot to knot things up going into the third frame. Walman not only got a good shot off that led to the rebound, but he recorded his first point as a Red Wing on that play. Hopefully the first of many.

3rd Period

After a promising end to the second period, The wheels completely fell off the wagon in the third. Two quick Senators goals from Josh Norris and Mathieu Joseph at 2:25 and 3:36 created a quick hole, and another Joseph score about ten minutes later made it deeper. Once again, Lucas Raymond, did what he could do to keep the Red Wings in the game. Making things interesting for only about 40 seconds. Shortly after Raymond’s second of the night, Mathieu Joseph empty-netter would complete the hat trick and put the final nail in Detroit’s coffin.
