You all know the names Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider and have likely been thrilled by their successes in their rookie seasons. They have been breaking and tying records left and right placing themself in the company of the Hockeytown Greats such as Gordie Howe, Nicklas Lidstrom, Henrik Zetterberg, and Steve Yzerman. So, what are some of the historic highlights from their seasons so far?

Lucas Raymond

In Red Wings history- Lucas Raymond is the 13th youngest skater to score his 1st NHL goal at the age of 19 years and 205 days. Raymond is one of 20 Detroit rookies to have scored three goals in one game- following in the footsteps of current GM Steve Yzerman who scored a rookie hat trick in the 1983-84 season. This three-goal game made Lucas Raymond the 2nd Red Wings teenager to ever score a hat trick.

Raymond is also the fastest teenager in franchise history to reach 20 assists which he did in 36 games played- surpassing Steve Yzerman who previously held this record with 20 assists in 39 games. It appears that Raymond is just trying to best or match Yzerman in the historical stats book as he also joined him as the 2nd teenager to score an overtime goal in Red Wings history.

As of March 3rd- Lucas Raymond is still leading the rookie point scoring with 43 points, is 3rd in rookie goals with 16, as well as being 2nd for rookie assists just behind Moritz Seider.

Moritz Seider

Moritz Seider has been breaking and matching rookie defenseman records this entire 2021-22 season- most notable being that he is currently 3rd in assists by a rookie defenseman in Red Wings history. The only two names in front of him on this list are Reed Larson (41A) and Nicklas Lidstrom (49A) with Seider coming close to their records with 35 assists in 54 games played this year. Similarly- Seider is 3rd in terms of rookie defenseman points in a season (40P) behind Lidstrom and Larson (both with 60P) once again.

Seider is the 9th youngest defenseman to score his 1st NHL goal when he was 20 years and 205 days old. Since then, he has gone on to score four more goals for a total of five, placing him at 15th in rookie defenseman goals- tied with current teammate Filip Hronek in his 2018-19 rookie season. It is also important to mention that three of these five goals were game-winning goals- not too shabby for a rookie defenseman. Going off of this, Seider is the 1st rookie defenseman in franchise history and 5th in NHL history to score multiple overtime goals in a single season.

As of March 1st, Moritz Seider has set the new franchise record for a point streak by a rookie defenseman with 12 points in just seven games- 11 assists and one goal.

Within their first 54 NHL games, Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider have been making waves- Raymond ranks among the NHL rookie leaders as Seider ranks among the top rookie defensemen. Both have been named rookie of the month this season as well as been frontrunners in the race for the Calder Trophy. These records and more have placed these two young players in the company of some of the most legendary names to ever be on the back of a Red Wings jersey and there are still more records to be broken.
