It’s a little bit of a pause for the Detroit Red Wings  while the week had some mixed reviews. Sunday and Tuesday’s games saw some tough returns while Thursday’s 5-2 loss to Carolina showed  some competitive spirit, especially from Filip Zadina.

But everyone could use a little break and it comes in the way of four days without a game. And when they do restart, it’s not going to be exactly the easiest matchup waiting for them.

So let’s look at the past week (and reach back a bit further to some happier past moments), the present, and the future of the team.

The past week saw Detroit go 0-3 with losses to Chicago, Columbus and Carolina. The Red Wings also lost Dylan Larkin for the week (in addition to last Saturday’s game as well) so a winless week wasn’t exactly surprising. Michael Rasmussen got another look before being returned to Grand Rapids while Zadina netted two goals in during Thursday’s game.

Oh, and this happened. Pesche was fined. So too, should the NHL for once again doing nothing while giving lip service to “safety.”

Honest to God, sign Darren McCarty to a contract. That’ll take care of the problem quickly.  And because it’s Mac, you know he’s good for some goals, too.

Red Wings’ Future Keeps Growing Brighter

Meanwhile, the power play is popping in Grand Rapids with Dennis Cholowski, and Taro Hirose providing more reason to get another crack in Detroit sooner rather than later. Jonatan Berggren continues to turn heads in the SHL and Moritz Seider just keeps making Steve Yzerman look more and more brilliant.

Red Wings ‘Week Ahead

Tampa Bay visits Little Caesars Arena this week and the last couple contests with the Lightning resulted in a pair of losses. The Lightning are still lead the Central Division, which has turned into quite the race with Carolina, Florida, and Chicago all right behind. Tampa can’t afford to lose any ground, and the Wings will have their hands full as we saw last time.
