Well, the Detroit Red Wings Centenneial Season just got a championship flair added to it. Maybe it's a good omen that the "Hey Hey Hocketown" center ice moniker's back for Chapter 100 of this ultra-storied franchise's history.

And this one's a testament to those vocal fans who spoke up and voted in droves to see the logo return to center ice for this special 2025-26 campaign. And can you really think of many better ways to honor 100 years of what might be the richest history of any American-based hockey team?

Even if the Wings don't contend for or make the playoffs in 2026, just seeing Hockeytown draped across the Winged Wheel and knowing what it harkens to will show the current incarnation of this squad what they're ultimately working toward.

Red Wings bringing back "Hey Hey Hockeytown" center ice logo links current players to the past

Something I love about not just the Wings, but the NHL overall is how well it links the past with the present, mainly in terms of how so many of the Original Six teams have essentially worn the same uniforms, and the Wings are no exception.

Sure, there've been times when teams would tweak things, but that doesn't mean the foundations have changed. But for the Wings, the "Hey Hey Hocketown" logo at center ice links this team here to the dynasty era that I still vividly remember, and I'm sure a lot of you reading this do, too.

Wearing the Winged Wheel on the sweater already links Steve Yzerman, for example, to past players like Gordie Howe to current players like Dylan Larkin and future players like Nate Danielson. It's why I'm a major advocate against sports teams making radical changes to established brands and wearing 100 different uniforms (looking at you, MLB, NBA, and NFL).

But when you drape Hockeytown across the 1934 version of the Winged Wheel along with its modernized 100 design, now the Wings that forged a dynasty over at the Joe are forever linked to this 2025-26 team.

All of that nostalgia might just be a good omen for the future

Yeah, we're feeling nostalgic for sure, and "Hey Hey Hockeytown's" just one way to bring back some awesome memories that Little Caesars Arena will be hosting. And, who knows? Maybe celebrating 100 years of hockey and 11 Stanley Cups will be a good omen for the team's near future?

I mean, the Wings have shown us over the last two seasons that they can compete for a playoff spot, even if. they look less-than-ideal on paper, and that's no different heading into 2025-26. But it also shows us they're just a few talented players away from ending this latest "Dead Wings" era for good.

A look into the past is one way to motivate this team to see some better days. And maybe that train will start moving this year. You never know.
