Ready to get bold? Bob Duff at Detroit Hockey Now noticed a pattern, saying, "This is the 15th time in the club’s 100-year history that they’ve sat with a record of 7-3 or better through the 10-game point of an NHL season. On each of the previous 14 occasions, the regular season conclusion included a playoff berth for the Red Wings."
We're only 10 games into the season, but if there's ever a good omen, it looks like Duff is reassuring fans that their hockey team has history on its side. No guarantees, obviously, but here's something else about the 2025-26 Red Wings: They find ways to win games. It happened in their road opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs, and it happened again on Saturday in that epic comeback win over the St. Louis Blues.
Todd McLellan has outstanding words for Dylan Larkin
The Detroit Free Press's Helene St. James asked head coach Todd McLellan about Dylan Larkin's play on Wednesday, and McLellan didn't hold back, saying, "You think about his ability to get to places and read plays. He's a pretty bright hockey player. We played him with a couple of players that I think complement him, so the whole package has been there."
Larkin's high hockey IQ is more than paying off, with 16 points and eight goals so far in 10 games. Breaking everything down, Larkin is on pace to snag between 65 and 66 goals and assists, which equals an incredible 130 to 132 points.
Should Larkin continue or at least stay near that current pace, he will surpass his career-high of 79 points in roughly 50 contests.
Red Wings' road trip continues against the LA Kings
The Red Wings finally put together a decent road performance on Tuesday night in their 5-2 win over the St. Louis Blues. While this Blues team has been a stark 180 from what seemed to be brewing in 2024-25, the Kings are another tale.
They have 13 points and a 5-3-3 record, but they have also allowed 34 goals so far, which puts them at No. 23 in the league. Meanwhile, the Wings have scored 35 times, and they're ninth in the NHL in scoring. Should they get the sticks going again on Thursday night, expect another win as this road trip continues in Southern California.
Cam Talbot will man the crease against the Kings while John Gibson will get the nod the following night against Anaheim, a team he's quite familiar with. Unfortunately, Patrick Kane will still be on the mend.
No major updates on Carter Mazur
Still no update on the Carter Mazur situation after he suffered a lower-body injury. Mazur looked like he was on the verge of getting yet another shot with the Red Wings before the injury, and it just adds to the list of ailments for one of Detroit's top prospects.
At some point, you would hope Mazur puts these injury issues behind him, and literally every time it looks like he's gaining momentum, disaster strikes. It struck last season when he got his chance to don the Winged Wheel in a regular-season game, and it struck again this year when Mazur found himself on a historic scoring pace.
Carter Mazur's status will be something to keep an eye on as new information will undoubtedly unfold. Right now, it's all about playing the waiting game.
