Detroit Red Wings fans didn't have the start to the offseason that they had anticipated, as team captain Dylan Larkin requested a trade from the team. From the lack of playoff appearances to a frosty relationship with general manager Steve Yzerman, Larkin wants out. The thing is, Larkin only has a select choice of teams he'd accept a trade to — the Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights or Florida Panthers.
While Larkin does hold the full no-movement clause, Yzerman does hold the cards. The three teams Larkin provided never made a strong enough offer for Yzerman to willingly trade away their captain and top center. In fact, The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun told Larkin's agent, Pat Brisson, to let his client know to expand his trade list. We now have a new update regarding that, and let's just say Larkin isn't playing ball.
Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press provided an update on Yzerman requesting Larkin expand his trade list. St. James reveals that Larkin has not expanded his trade wish list and that none of the three teams on his initial list has provided the Red Wings with a strong enough offer. St. James says the Red Wings are looking for "value-now players" in return for their top line center.
In two-plus months since requesting trade from Red Wings, Dylan Larkin has not expanded his list (he has no-trade clause) from Florida, Minnesota, Vegas. No offers from those teams have intrigued Wings. They want value-now players for a 1C with very favorable contract.

Dylan Larkin has yet to expand trade list for Red Wings
With this news, it's looking less and less likely that Larkin and Yzerman will reach some sort of a resolution any time soon.
For the three teams, the Panthers can effectively be ruled out, considering they traded for Brady Tkachuk in a deal with the Ottawa Senators. As for the Golden Knights, they don't necessarily have the assets to pull off a trade for Larkin, whether its draft capital or ready-now, difference-making players. The Wild, meanwhile, have shown the most interest in Larkin, but they are offering more of a future-oriented deal. Additionally, Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos suggested that the Red Wings would "have no problem" trading Larkin to the Wild if Matt Boldy were part of the return. Looking at that logically, the Wild are not going to give up Boldy, who is one of their top players.
If Larkin were to expand his trade list, that would allow Yzerman to see if he could get a better deal. Plus, it could increase the chance of a bidding war. But with Larkin not providing more teams, both sides are back at square one. Yzerman said after the NHL Draft that while Larkin did request a trade, he doesn't necessarily have to meet it no matter what.
"My job as the manager of the Detroit Red Wings is always to do what is in the best interest of the Detroit Red Wings, and I will act accordingly to that," Yzerman said. "I cannot make any guarantees, or did not make any guarantees, that that request could or would be met."
Given this latest update, the Red Wings fans may be in a situation where they will be waiting on updates about whether or not Larkin will show up to training camp.
