Ingredients:

For the base:

·         1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

·         1/2 cup powdered sugar

·         3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

For the filling:

·         1 cup chopped pecans

·         1/2 cup maple syrup

·         1/4 cup brown sugar

·         1/4 cup unsalted butter

·         2 tablespoons heavy cream

·         1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the base: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a bowl, mix the flour, powdered sugar, and softened butter until crumbly. Press this mixture firmly into the bottom of a greased 9×9 inch baking pan. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until lightly golden. Let it cool.
  2. Make the filling: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the chopped pecans, maple syrup, brown sugar, butter, and heavy cream. Stir continuously and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 5-7 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Assemble the bars: Pour the pecan maple mixture over the cooled base, spreading it evenly. Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes or until the filling is set.
  4. Cool and slice: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, refrigerate for a few hours or until firm. Cut into bars of your desired size.
