The Detroit Red Wings are back in action as they hit the road for a matchup with the New York Rangers. They have a quick trip out east before coming back to Detroit for another homestand. Detroit’s fresh off of handing the Boston Bruins their first regulation loss.

On the downside, the Detroit Red Wings may be playing hurt against the Rangers, with captain Dylan Larkin a game-time decision. Their matchup with the Rangers is certainly not going to be an easy one either, as the Rangers sit atop the Metropolitan Division.

New York is 8-2-1 with a two-point lead on the Devils in their Division. They dropped their last game but are looking to get back in the win column against Detroit, which should make for a good matchup between the two Original Six teams.

Detroit has been sputtering a bit, bouncing from good game to bad, and so on. But their matchup with Boston on Saturday left them back in the win column, so they’re looking for their second straight. The big question is going to be Larkin’s status.

Lalonde said in his presser that Larkin battled hard in the win over the Bruins and that his status will be uncertain until tomorrow morning when he is re-evaluated. However, Lalonde doubled down by saying that Larkin got the extra day of rest between games, which works to his advantage.

Plus, as Bob Heyrman noted this morning, the Red Wings will get Robby Fabbri back, joining the lineup after being sidelined with an injury early on. Even then, without Larkin, that top line will be a little less tough. Detroit will have to rely on the added depth they have shown this year to get it done against the Rangers.

Detroit Red Wings are in for another battle with matchup against the Rangers.

Prediction: Coming off of a tough matchup with the Bruins on Saturday, even with an added day of rest, it’s hard to jump on board with Detroit here. Ville Husso had some soft goals vs. the Bruins, and if he is indeed in net on Tuesday, it could make for a tough matchup with the Rangers, who know how to find the twine. Therefore, I’m staying away from the Moneyline and the Puck Line and taking the over at 6.0.

Beyond that, the over/under on a goal to be scored in the first ten minutes is also enticing. I’m expecting this to be a game where the offense’s shine. I like over 1.5 goals to be scored in the 1st Period as well, which carries a -140 payout on DraftKings.
