The Detroit Red Wings are off to an exceptional start in 2023-24. They had gone out and made changes to their roster coming into the season, which has shown to be extremely beneficial early on. After all, they’ve won five straight and are doing things no one would have expected.
For the Detroit Red Wings, the biggest off-season addition by a landslide was the trade that brought Alex DeBrincat home to Hockeytown. He’s jumped right in and found his footing with the new organization. He’s proven to be precisely what the Red Wings needed.
But on the flip side, for DeBrincat, it seems that his new home and a new start are exactly what he needed. He’s off to an unprecedented start this year. Heck, after his hat trick on Sunday, DeBrincat leads the league in points and goals.
Even early in the season, it has to be crazy to think that the Red Wings have a player leading the league offensively. It’s been quite impressive to see how well DeBrincat has adjusted in Detroit. It’s one of the many reasons that Detroit is off to a red-hot start.
Detroit Red Wings forward Alex DeBrincat is off to a historic start.
For Detroit, DeBrincat has been off to an insane start. Ottawa fans have to be scoffing at what they have missed out. DeBrincat’s been getting involved offensively, and his play on Sunday only encapsulated what this year has been like for him.
He made history twice on Sunday. With his three-point game, DeBrincat became the second player in history to have 3+ points in each of his first three home games with an organization. The home-ice advantage and home-ice tilt for DeBrincat have been exceptional.
On top of that, DeBrincat made Red Wings history with his hat trick, becoming the fifth Michigan-born player to record a three-goal game for the Red Wings. It’s just an exclamation point on an insane kick-off to the season.
Through DeBrincat’s first six games in Detroit, he’s got eight goals and four assists for 12 total points. After Sunday’s games, DeBrincat leads the league in points by one, with Dylan Larkin in second, as he’s off to a red-hot start. Again, just speaking to the chemistry that has allowed the top line to be lethal on the ice together to this point in 2023-24.
DeBrincat’s got a two-goal leg up on four players who all have six goals apiece, with his eight tallies in the early parts of the campaign. Detroit has to be absolutely enthralled with how well DeBrincat has performed.
He’s got a big year ahead if he can continue to mesh well with this top line. His performance level is not sustainable, but dreaming about an insane season from the Red Wings is more and more enticing by the day.
