The Detroit Red Wings are getting ready to kick things off and hit the ground running on the 2023-24 regular season. The team is out east, getting ready to take on the New Jersey Devils in an Eastern Conference clash at the Prudential Center.

That being said, the Detroit Red Wings are locked and loaded for a big season if things go well for them. Hockeytown is ready for a playoff run, and it’s just a matter of the team pulling it off and putting together an exceptional season. But today, we’re talking about game no.1, the season opener.

It will be a big match-up against the Devils tonight, who are another young team who are up-and-coming. They’re ahead of Detroit, but it will be an excellent test of how things could go early on for Detroit.

It’s a long season, and there are plenty of games ahead where things could change, but the Red Wings are hoping that they can get things kicked off on a high note with an opening night victory. There are plenty of things to watch for in game one, whether it’s new players settling in, returning players, or just hoping for a win; let’s talk about some predictions.

Detroit Red Wings predictions for the 2023-24 season opener

Before we jump right in, these are simply predictions. These are simply some things that I feel that Red Wings fans should look out for on night one of the 2023-24 seasons as the team takes on the Devils.

Prediction 1: Detroit Red Wings off-season acquisition Alex DeBrincat scores a goal.

In the game preview for tonight’s contest, I noted that I think Alex DeBrincat will find a way to get it done in his regular-season debut with the team. He was the most significant addition of the off-season and is a big piece of the team’s forward core and will remain that way during his time in Hockeytown.

At the time of writing, no prop bets are available for the contest, but for the bettors out there, I’d be willing to seek out some value on DeBrincat’s prop bets. But, overall, It feels like DeBrincat has that spark plug and offensive value that will shine through on night one. For that reason, I’m predicting DeBrincat to kick off his 2023-24 season with a goal.

Prediction 2: Detroit Red Wings forward Lucas Raymond gets involved offensively.

Many Red Wings fans were upset with Lucas Raymond‘s performance in 2022-23, being a little worried about the young forward. However, as the team starts off the 2023-24 season, Raymond has come back more physically and stronger, looking to improve things; I like his odds of doing so.

With a boosted forward core, I think the Red Wings will be able to see Raymond come alive and settle in offensively. There’s much to like with Raymond and plenty to be excited about this season. But, in the opener, I think Raymond will go out there and get the job done.

He may not find the back of the net, but pay attention to Raymond offensively. It feels like he will find ways to get it done in the offensive zone, whether it be creating space to set up others, putting good shots on net, or just helping manufacture scoring chances.

Prediction #3: The Detroit Red Wings come away with a win on the road.

Okay, the odds are not in the Red Wings’ favor, with the favorite being New Jersey. I don’t want to bail on Husso here, but it feels like a game where the respective offenses will be able to get it done. If the Red Wings can manufacture some high-danger chances and rely on their playmakers to get it done, they will be in good shape.

Husso will make saves and keep Detroit in the game; it will be a matter of finding ways to get the puck into the back of New Jersey’s net. The Red Wings may not be the favorite, but I think they can win in a high-scoring match-up.

The Red Wings have a long road ahead, but tonight’s game will be a great scene, allowing Hockeytown to get a look at their favorite players as they take the ice to kick off the 2023-24 season.
