The Detroit Red Wings had a group of prospects up in Traverse City at the Prospect Tournament. While things did not go great for the Red Wings prospects up north, it was not great for forward Carter Mazur, who has found himself sidelined already.

In the Detroit Red Wings’ first game of the Prospect Tournament, it was a rough start for Mazur, who ended up leaving early on. He ended up not returning with a lower-body injury. It seemed like a knee injury that could result in Mazur missing some time.

Nothing has been announced with Mazur, as the Red Wings noted that he will get further evaluation to make any determinations with their forward. The youngster has a bright future, and there was hope for him to come out and make a statement in 2023, but he may find himself away from the ice for some time as he recovers.

Here’s the tweet (or Post on X, whatever you fancy) from Daniella Bruce announcing Mazur would be out.

The Red Wings are hoping that Mazur can avoid any major time away from the ice, but the team needs further evaluation. As the Red Wings to get training camp underway, it would be a tough start to have Mazur missing as he was looking to prove he could be an asset in 2023-24 and start strong with Grand Rapids from the get-go.

Detroit Red Wings waiting for further evaluation on Carter Mazur.

Mazur signed with the Red Wings organization for an exceptional collegiate career with the University of Denver. He jumped into the organization and got his start with the Griffins, where he tapped into some scoring in a brief stint there before the season ended.

There’s hope that Mazur can be a nice jolt of offense for the Red Wings moving forward. He’s an offensive forward who’s been able to be a playmaker and a scorer. He’s able to work well in the offensive zone and create space to produce scoring chances.

After a big collegiate career and an uber-quick glimpse at his offense with three goals and three assists over six total games in Grand Rapids, there’s plenty to speculate about. There was hope that he would be able to prove himself with a loud performance in training camp, but things could be halted for the time being.

The Red Wings went 0-3 at the Prospect Tournament in Traverse City, and Mazur getting hurt in the first game was not the best way to start things off. It’s less than ideal news with training camp on the horizon as 2023-24 inches closer.

Mazur has the potential to have a bright future in Detroit; it will be interesting to see how he handles things as he gets into the 2023-24 season with Grand Rapids.
