The Detroit Red Wings missed the playoffs for the sixth straight season. However, this is one of the most important playoff series for the Red Wings and their undetermined future.

The Detroit Red Wings are not in the Stanley Cup playoffs for the sixth straight season. Not really a shocker, but still a bummer. I had really high hopes for the Red Wings this season and seeing them miss the playoffs and perform as they did sucks.

I suppose we should be used to that by now. But, thinking back to the late 1990s/early 2000s, they were so dominant and I chose to remember them that way as I’m sure many of you do. But, we’re not the same team we were back then. So much has changed and all we can do now is adapt and that is exactly what they are trying to do.

Last week the Detroit Red Wings organization announced that they will not be bringing head coach, Jeff Blashill back and instead will be looking to bring in a new coaching staff. Jeff Blashill is one of the winniest coaches in Grand Rapids history, but that didn’t qutie age well.

Blashill’s tenure with the Red Wings was a disaster and the fans knew it almost immediatley. He was not equpit to coach a team that was built the way it was. The dump-and-chase is a terrible scheme for the team they have assembled and Blashill losing his job I think shows that the organization feels the same way.

I’m sure by now you think this article is about Jeff Blashill, but it’s not really. I was just setting the scene for what’s to come in this article which is: This is thee most important playoff series for the Red Wings organization in some time.
