Red Wings Snap Losing Streak Against Boston

The Detroit Red Wings snapped their six game losing streak last night in a 5-3 win against the Boston Bruins.

The Detroit Red Wings playoff hopes are all but gone. They looked depleted the past couple games. It was clear that they were upset. I bet they are not upset now!

Yesterday, the Red Wings took on Atlantic Divisional rival, the Boston Bruins and walked away with a great team win.

First Period

The Detroit Red Wings first period against the Bruins was absolutley pittiful to say the least. Boston absolutley dominated pretty much the entire first period, and worse than that, they had a hard time even getting out of the defensive zone. As a proffesional hockey team, and having players as talented as the Red Wings have, they should be held in the defensive zone for 3/4 of the first period. You just can’t have that.

Looking at the good that happened in the first period, the Red Wings were able to tack on a goal in the final minutes of the first period to cut the Bruins lead in half. Better yet, the goal was scored by captain, Dylan Larkin. Furthermore, it was assisted by rookies, Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider.

Dylan Larkin’s goal was his 30th of the season which, when you consider eveything this club has working against them, it’s a bright spot.

Second Period

The Detroit Red Wings first period was terrible. I mean, as I said above, it was quite pittiful how bad they had played. However, the momentum from the first period carried over into the second.

The Red Wings scored two goals in the second period. They moved the puck well, and closed gaps so much better than they did in the first period and they were rewarded twice for doing so. Michael Rasmussen scored the first goal in the second period and it was an easy shot right in front of Jeremy Swayman. The second goal however was so pretty.

The Detroit Red Wings system is not very good. It doesn’t work very often, but they had good positioning and Jakub Vrana was able to find Filip Zadina on the backside for the second goal of the second period and the third goal for the Red Wings.

It was a very well played period by the Red Wings. For the first time in awhile I can actually say that and mean it.

Third Period

The third period was yet another very good 20 minutes worth of hockey from the Red Wings.

The Detroit Red Wings seemed to be ready to go in all three zone’s in the third period which led to them getting yet another goal and an empty-netter to seal the victory.

Despite giving up a late third period goal of a Patrice Bergeron deflection, the third period was just as good as the second period or perhaps better! I mean, they didn’t blow the lead so that should be something that get’s you smiling.

After the game, there was a big brawl with Boston that led to a very exciting finish to the game, but now it’s time to hit the road and get ready for their game tomorrow against the Winnipeg Jets.
