Red Wings Set Off to Face the Jets in Hopes of a Winning Streak

After defeating the Boston Bruins last night 5-3, the Red Wings will undoubtedly look to create a winning streak tonight across the border.

The Detroit Red Wings finally got their first win in six games. After a terrible first period, the Red Wings weren’t exactly showing everyone that they were ready to compete, but after Dylan Larkin put one in to end the first period, everything changed.

When the Red Wings came back out for the start of the second period, it was like there was a whole new team out there on the ice. They were constantly moving the puck and forcing the Bruins to chase the puck instead of letting them close the gaps.

Another key point from the game was how much better the team looked once Michael Rasmussen knotched the second goal of the game for the Red Wings. I mean, from that point on, it was clear that they were ready to go and win. I’m hoping that carries over into tonight’s game against the Winnipeg Jets.

The Winnipeg Jets are one of the better teams in the Western conference, but have underperformed for most of the season. To no fault of their superstar winger, Kyle Connor who has absolutley dominated all season long. In fact, I believe he will finish as a top five finalist for the Hart Memorial Trophy.

Shutting Connor down is going to be quite the challenge for Blashill, but other teams have done it previously. You just have to work up a game-plan to take away his angles but more importantly, take away the angles for back-door passes. It’s easy to get wrapped up in how great Connor has been all season that you forget about players like Mark Scheifele, Blake Wheeler, Pierre Luc-Dubois, Nikolaj Ehlers. They are filled with talent, so you can’t just take away Connor’s shooting angles but his passing lanes as well.

If Blashill can game-plan to finding a way to nutralize those areas, the Jets will be in for a much harder game than I expect they are going to be preparing for.
