The Red Wings boast an ultra-solid core, and it will pay dividends before fans know it. And one of the players in that core has been impeccable lately in the scoring department. If you’ve been following the team all season, you probably know who I’m talking about. But if not, let me give you a rundown.
This forward is in his age-20 season and he’s gone through his fair share of adjusting to the big leagues. His game, however, had gotten more solid as of late, and he’s since put up seven points in the last nine games, five of which were goals.
If you want even better news, he’s also boasted over 16 minutes of average total ice time and has a plus-6 rating. Oh, and his 12 penalty minutes also indicate some aggressive play in which he’s not afraid to get tough on opponents. Well, if you look at those 11 blocks and 24 hits, you’ll also know that he’s excelled in nearly every facet of his game.
Yeah, the Red Wings hit a home run on Marco Kasper
Although the Red Wings have become almost unwatchable in recent games, Marco Kasper has been one of the most positive takeaways through this stretch. Yeah, his numbers are still rather low, with 15 goals and 15 assists through 68 games, but his recent performances, especially his scoring, have indicated that he’s turned a corner.
A corner we all saw coming, but if he keeps up this level of production as the season winds down, what will his 2025-26 numbers look like? Hey, it’s okay to expect a major jump in production from Kasper, considering how good he’s looked over his previous nine outings.
It doesn’t mean there won’t be drops in his production at times, as it happens to even the best of them. But expect Kasper to keep up this level of play when October 2025 rolls around should he continue to maximize his productivity to close out the 2024-25 campaign.
A Red Wings team that is growing together…
The better and more accurate term would be ‘Red Wings organization,’ because, at this point, you have to ask ‘who’s next?’ Yeah, Marco Kasper looks like the latest success story, but in the recent past, we’ve seen the same with Moritz Seider, Lucas Raymond, and more recently, Simon Edvinsson. You can throw Kasper’s name into that mix these days.
Overall, if the Red Wings keep sending up NHL-ready talent that can figure things out within a single season, expect another Marco Kasper to creep into the mix real soon. Soon as in, next season. And eventually, this team will have so much talent that they will break into and stick around in one of those two wild card spots, and then some.
No, it’s not happening in what had ultimately become a wash of a season. But if the Red Wings get another Kasper-like player or two from their prospects pool, they will serve as a pair of missing links moving forward. Outside talent will supplement this, but after nearly a decade of frustration, maybe the Yzerplan will win out.
