The Detroit Red Wings organization sent four players to the Olympics, each competing to bring home gold for their respective nations. Wings captain Dylan Larkin and Team USA take on Lucas Raymond and Sweden in the quarterfinals, and Moritz Seider and the Germans face Slovakia. Eduards Tralmaks and Latvia were eliminated by Sweden in the quarters.
Larkin, Raymond and Seider are household names in Detroit and across the National Hockey League, but going under the radar has been the strong play of Tralmaks. Tralmaks skated in four games for Latvia, registering three goals and one assist at the 2026 Olympics.
Tralmaks showed he was not overmatched against NHL competition. The size and strength Tralmaks possesses was showcased during the loss against Sweden when he boxed out Oliver Ekman-Larsson to get space to score off a rebound during the 5-1 loss.
Background on Eduards Tralmaks
The 28-year-old forward spent four years at the University of Maine from the 2017-18 season to the 2020-21 season, skating in 119 games, recording 39 goals and 43 assists for 82 career points at the collegiate level.
After four years at Maine, Tralmaks spent the majority of the next three seasons with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League. Tralmaks appeared in 87 games, totaling 22 goals and 19 assists for 41 points. The forward’s best season came in the 2021-22 season, when Tralmaks scored 14 goals, 13 assists for 27 points in 51 games.
Tralmaks spent the past two seasons playing in the Czech League with the Kladno Knights. Last season, Tralmaks recorded 23 goals, 28 assists for 51 points in 48 games, leading the Knights in all three offensive categories.
Eduards Tralmaks’ spot in the Red Wings Organization
On March 21, 2025, the Red Wings announced they signed Tralmaks to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2025-26 season. The Latvian forward has spent the duration of the season with the Grand Rapids Griffins, appearing in 44 games, recording 18 goals, six assists and 24 points.
The 18 goals place Tralmaks third on the Griffins, and 24 points have him sitting fifth among all skaters. At 28 years old, Tralmaks is proving to have the ability to succeed at different professional levels.
Listed at 6-foot-4, 225 pounds, Tralmaks’ game revolves around being physical, strong on the puck and having a knack for putting the puck in the back of the net. With the Wings having trouble with depth scoring, Tralmaks’ ability could help raise the floor of the Red Wings bottom six forward group.
The Red Wings have been rumored to be attempting to make additions prior to the trade deadline, but if no additions are made, Tralmaks could be in line to join the Red Wings club after his 2026 Olympic showing. Tralmaks could slot in on the Red Wings’ fourth line alongside Michael Rasmussen and James van Riemsdyk, replacing Elmer Soderblom, who has struggled mightily to produce this season.
