The Detroit Red Wings have the potential to be a top-five scoring team in hockey, but they can't get enough consistency offensively. Their shooting has stagnated since Dec. 6, and the trend has continued into the new year.

On Tuesday, I took a deep dive into how this has been plaguing the Red Wings, and what they must do if they plan on getting more consistent at getting shots off. One player who is holding his own so far in the offensive zone? Moritz Seider.

Seider has 100 shots on goal this season, and Scott Rogust talked about how Seider has become more than just one of the league's better two-way defensemen. He can easily garner serious consideration for the Norris Trophy this season, and maybe even take the award if his high-octane approach keeps trending north.

Detroit Red Wings could easily have some help on the way

After the Red Wings reassigned Nate Danielson to Grand Rapids, I also talked about how they need to keep their youngsters in the AHL. This team must keep pace with the mighty Tampa Bay Lightning, the brewing Montreal Canadiens, the resurging Florida Panthers, and even the upstart Buffalo Sabres. They need seasoned veterans.

Nestor Quixtan gave Wings fans one possible answer here, citing Andrew Mangiapane. Mangiapane isn't a game-changer, nor will he often bring fans to their feet. But he's a consistent, reliable NHL veteran who will bring steady support to a Red Wings forward group that needs another veteran presence.

Speaking of rookies, don't think for a single second Nate Danielson won't accept the ultimate fate of his season to land in the AHL. Surviving 28 games at the NHL level at 20 years of age, Danielson has shown he's ready for the big club; he just needs more reps. How does he get back into the NHL? Michael Coyle has an answer, and it involves Danielson playing the game his way.

Prospects made their cases at the World Juniors

The Red Wings were well-represented at the 2025-26 World Juniors, with Eddie Genborg leading the charge. Ben Oswald delivered hot takes on Genborg, Max Plante, and other names who want nothing more than to wear the Winged Wheel at some point down the road.

Given the way these prospects fared, it should give Wings fans hope that the best days that are on the horizon will stick around for a while. Maybe the best since the dynasty era of the 1990s and 2000s.

The Red Wings return to action on Thursday, with the Vancouver Canucks on the schedule. Vancouver hasn't been a good team at any point this season, and these are the kinds of games the Red Wings must not let slip from their grasp if they're interested in winning the Atlantic.
