The Detroit Red Wings are enjoying a strong start to the 2025-26 season, mostly behind their top-six players, which miraculously still includes the ageless Patrick Kane. Kane, 37, is still proving to be an offensive threat with his near point-per-game pace during his third season in Detroit. That type of production is helping Kane close in on Mike Modano, who currently sits a mere 20 points ahead of Kane on the all-time US-born scoring list.

The dynamic playmaking winger has totaled three goals and 12 points in 14 games this season with the Red Wings. Over his career, Kane has achieved 495 goals and 1,355 points in 1,316 career games.

Recently, Modano, a Detroit native and former Red Wing, spoke about Kane's career and said he will make an effort to attend on the night Kane breaks the record. "I knew years ago that he might be one that if he stayed healthy, that he would be the guy that kind of goes after it," Modano said. "I'd love to be there and definitely would make the effort to be there for that one."

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Ben Chiarot fined

Red Wings defender Ben Chiarot was fined following Detroit's 4-3 loss in New Jersey against the Devils on Monday evening.

Chiarot was fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for butt-ending New Jersey Devils defender Simon Nemec. The infraction occurred late in the third frame in a scrum following the whistle. Chiarot wasn't penalized on the play, but Nemec left the ice for a moment in some discomfort but was able to return to action.

Chiarot, 34, has found himself playing as a top-three option once again for the Red Wings, averaging over 20 minutes of ice per night. He's bounced between being paired with Moritz Seider on the top unit and rookie Axel Sandin-Pellikka on the second pairing. The veteran defender leads the Red Wings with 48 blocks and has contributed two goals and six points through 23 games this season.

Detroit Red Wings top prospect, Sebastian Cossa, is dominating in Grand Rapids

Sebastian Cossa is once again off to a great start with the Grand Rapids Griffins. Detroit's top goaltending prospect is 5-1-0 in his first six games of the season with the Griffins, posting an incredible 1.67 goals against average and 0.940 save percentage.

This production is a welcome sight, considering Detroit's goaltending struggles at the NHL level, particularly with newcomer John Gibson. Gibson is 4-6-1 with a 3.46 goals against average and a horrible 0.870 save percentage during his first season with Detroit.

Cossa, 23, might eventually force his way into Detroit's cage if his stout play between the pipes in Grand Rapids continues. This impressive start in 2025-26 comes on the heels of a 21-15-5 effort last season, during which he posted a 2.45 goals-against average and a 0.911 save percentage.
