The Detroit Red Wings, per Bob Duff of Detroit Hockey Now, haven't held a single interview for general manager yet.
In an interview with NHL Network, Duff describes the most recent updates on the general manager search following Steve Yzerman's departure.
"You've got 3 weeks until rookie camp to get a GM in place, so that seems unlikely at this stage. As far as we know, there haven't been any interviews started with candidates yet. I don't know how you get a GM in place by training camp."

“I’ve never seen this, I’ve been covering hockey a long time”#LGRW pic.twitter.com/8n8ecBGN45Earlier this month, the Red Wings hired Turnkeyzrg, an outside firm ran by a former Ilitch Sports and Entertainment employee, to conduct interviews. Whether or not they've held interviews of their own is up to interpretation, but the fact that the Red Wings haven't made any progress is startling.
"I've never seen this before"
With three weeks to go before training camp, the clock is ticking for the front office. What's especially concerning about this is the fact that, per Duff, there haven't been any interviews. While names like Jeff Greenberg have been posited in weeks prior, the lack of communication is extremely concerning this close to the start of the season.
"We don't know if any of the front office people still running the ops are going to be here when they get a new GM," Duff adds. "Is the new GM going to bring in new team of executives? Everything's in flux right now... I've never seen this before. I've been covering hockey for a long time and I've never seen a team this close to training camp with so much uncertainty."
With that said, however, there's no evidence to suggest the Red Wings haven't held interviews. Rather, Duff's quotes reveal the tightlipped culture during the Yzerman era hasn't gone away just yet. Having said that, if the Red Wings haven't held interviews yet, it speaks to a much larger issue within the front office that will need to be addressed by the next general manager.
Larkin will have "C" removed, eventually
Later in the interview, the NHL Network panelists ask about the status of Dylan Larkin. Duff put it bluntly: "You aren't gonna make a Larkin trade without a new GM."
Shortly after, the panelists wondered about Larkin's status as captain of the team. Duff, in response, was candid. "I would think eventually [removing Larkin's captaincy] would happen. We'll have to wait until a new GM takes over before we have any answers."
It seems Larkin's removal as captain is a "when", not an "if".
Training camp starts in three weeks. It appears that, until we hear from the organization itself, we won't have any major updates on the GM front.
