Red Wings goalie prospect is climbing fast and will force tough decisions

The Detroit Red Wings prospect pool is stacked at netminder, wtih at least a trio looking like they'll play in the NHL at some poing.

The Detroit Red Wings have seven netminding prospects who are all looking to make more of a name for themselves this season. You may know who some of them are, but where would they stand if you ranked them?

While these rankings are subjective, I wanted to share where I'd put the likes of Sebastian Cossa and Company if I were to group them all against one another.

A couple of them you may've already crossed since they graced my top 10 list of overall prospects in Detroit's system. As for those outside the top 10? Where do they stand?

7 - Landon Miller

Landon Miller brings ideal size, at 6'5, 203 lbs. But he regressed significantly with the Soo Greyhounds in 2024-25, compiling an 0.877 save percentage, one shutout, and a 4.07 GAA in 37 contests. He didn't improve in the playoffs, with a 5.61 GAA and a 0.796 save percentage.

6 - Michal Pradel

Another young goaltender in the system with ideal size, Michal Pradel looked great during his first rodeo in North America, playing with the USHL's Tri-City Storm. In 14 games, he snagged an 0.899 save percentage, a shutout, and a 2.41 GAA. he also looked stellar in one playoff appearance, with a 2.06 GAA and a 0.944 save percentage.

5 - Carter Gylander

Played primarily in the ECHL last season, and ended up with a solid 0.907 save percentage, two shutouts, and a 2.61 GAA. He followed that up with a 6-2 record in the playoffs, with a 2.88 GAA and an 0.895 save percentage. That said, there could be too much talent in the system for Gylander to make much of a dent with the Red Wings.

4 - Rudy Guimond

Not a bad debut in the QMJHL, with Guimond playing for a very, very good Moncton Wildcats team. Guimond only had to step in and showcase that he could play as expected and he did that, finishing the regular season with three shutouts, a 0.940 save percentage, and a 1.73 GAA. That's exactly how you take advantage of your situation.

3 - Trey Augustine

Wherever Trey Augustine goes, he seems to put up near-flawless performances and there's a good chance he'll move up to No. 2 once he signs with Detroit. He's undersized, at 6'1, 194 lbs, but he's proven time and again that lack of size doesn't put you behind the eight ball when you got the mechanics.

2 - Michal Postava

Like Augustine, Postava's 6'2, 205-lb frame is below average by goaltending standards, but he shined in Czechia's pro league before signing with the Wings. You could see a lot of him in Grand Rapids this season should he adjust well in North America. And if he doesn't miss a beat, he could be a challenger to Cossa.

1 - Sebastian Cossa

If Sebastian Cossa proved he could be more consistent, there's a good chance John Gibson doesn't even come to town this season. Still, Cossa should be entering the 2025-26 season with a chip on his shoulder and just outlast the competition. If and when that happens, you'll see him wearing the winged wheel permanently.
