The Detroit Red Wings are at it again, this time selecting forward Victor Plante with the 47th pick.

Plante, the brother of Red Wings prospect Max Plante, played 20 games for the USNDTP Juniors, putting up 18 points in 20 games last season. He'll join his brothers Max and Zam at the University of Minnesota-Duluth next season.

Victor Plante is the second brother to be united with his sibling in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, the first being the Ruck Twins, who now play for the Pittsburgh Penguins. This is the second pick the Red Wings have made in the draft thus far, the first being J.P. Hurlbert in the first round following their trade of Sebastian Cossa.

As of right now, general manager Steve Yzerman doesn't have the best track record with second round picks, but, if Trey Augustine and Max Plante are any indication, that trend could be changing very soon.

What the Red Wings get with Victor Plante

Victor Plante is not the flashiest player, nor is he a particularly unpredictable one. While some may consider him a "safe" pick, that doesn't mean he isn't spectacular in his own right. Dobber Prospects' profile on Plante praises him for his vision and intelligence as well as his skating.

"He’s a strong skater which means he gets up and down the ice well," Plante's prospect profile reads. "He closes in on opponents on the forecheck, and often tries to take the body, even if it means overshooting the puck entirely. He wins pucks back well though, whether it’s coming in as support, deflecting passes, or winning board battles, he does all the small things. I can also appreciate how his defensive closeouts aren’t just half measures. He really tries to get into shooting and passing lanes out on the perimeter."

Plante also comes with the added benefit of built-in chemistry with his brother Max, who won the Hobey Baker Award last year as the best player in NCAA hockey. Adding both forwards to the roster and playing them on the same line gives the duo a chance to show off their magic.

Several prospect profiles compare his style of play to Jonathan Marchessault of the Nashville Predators. To get a player similar to Marchessault's play style would be nothing short of fantastic for the Red Wings, who desperately need help on the wing.

When Red Wings fans can expect Plante

Like his brother Max, Victor Plante is committed to the University of Minnesota-Duluth. The duo will show their stuff all season long and have an opportunity to make it in the NHL as early as 2027-28. In an ideal world, they both play out of their minds, dominate the NCAA and then make their way to the NHL and bring the Red Wings to glory.

Here's hoping the Plantes grow well in Detroit soil.
