Patrick Kane is sticking around Hockeytown and the Detroit Red Wings fanbase couldn't be happier about this move. Kane may be older, but he's still a playmaker.

Patrick Kane is returning for another season with the Detroit Red Wings on a one-year contract worth a $3 million AAV. This is incredible news for Wings fans, considering how well Kane's played for the team over the past two seasons.

Since he arrived in Detroit, Kane's been stellar, considering his age and the fact he underwent a hip resurfacing procedure, something most players don't make it back from. Still, Kane's put the assumption that you can't return to the rink from such a procedure to rest, as he's put up 106 points and 41 goals across 122 games with the team.

He's also effective on the power play, netting 14 goals on the man advantage since arriving in the Motor City. Not bad at all for a guy about to enter his age-37 season, and a surefire Hall of Famer. So, you can understand exactly why Wings fans are celebrating this one; just take a look at the engagement in that card from X.

Patrick Kane can make hockey history in Year 3 with the Red Wings

Throughout his career with the Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, and now, the Red Wings, Kane has 492 career goals, putting him at just eight away from 500. He's also just 49 assists away from 900, so there's a good chance that Kane, should he stay healthy this season, set a couple more career milestones.

And now, Kane gets a chance to do something else: Help the Red Wings end this playoff drought for good. If he can do that and play a major role in bringing the Wings back to prominence, then Kane can check off yet another reason of why he deserves to be a Hall of Famer the second he's eligible.

He's been an accomplished player since Day 1 of his career, and really, Day 1 since he decided to spend his twilight years in another one of the NHL's most historic cities. And now, Red Wings fans, you get to enjoy watching Kane give opponents headaches once again as his production's not going south any time soon.

Kane's extension also comes on the same day that the Wings traded forward Vladimir Tarasenko to the Minnesota Wild, freeing up some cap space. With Kane returning and Tarasenko no longer in town, is general manager Steve Yzerman about to make a big move? We'll find out soon enough when free agency begins tomorrow.
