The Detroit Red Wings kick off their 2026-27 regular season against the New York Rangers on Oct. 2. While the Red Wings certainly have their doubters heading into the new campaign, they will be aiming to prove them wrong.
If the Red Wings hope to surprise many and make the playoffs for the first time since 2016, they are going to need their top players to deliver. This certainly includes Lucas Raymond, as he is a huge part of their forward group.
Raymond is coming off another strong season for the Red Wings. In 80 games during the 2025-26 campaign, the 2020 fourth-overall pick recorded 25 goals, 51 assists, and 76 points. This was the third season in a row where Raymond posted over 70 points, so there is no question that he has been consistent.
Yet, could Raymond end up hitting a new level this season and smash his current career highs? The possibility should not be ruled out.
Raymond is entering his prime at 24 years old, so he certainly has the potential to reach new heights offensively. His current career highs are 31 goals (2023-24) and 80 points (2024-25). These are impressive numbers, but it is fair to wonder if he will have more in the tank for the Red Wings this season.
If Raymond can take that next step and hit the 35-goal and 90-point marks, it would be massive for the Red Wings. If he stays healthy and consistent this season, the possibility of him acheiving this should not be ruled out.
Red Wings' Raymond could thrive playing with Alex DeBrincat
With Patrick Kane signing with the Chicago Blackhawks this offseason, Alex DeBrincat is expected to play on a line with Raymond this campaign. This could benefit Raymond tremendously, as DeBrincat is an elite goal-scorer. Raymond is also a very impactful playmaker, so these two star forwards have the potential to develop great chemistry on the same line.
If DeBrincat is in his top form this campaign, this would help Raymond's chances of hitting new career highs this season. DeBrincat undoubtedly has the potential to make a major impact, as he had 41 goals, 44 assists, and 85 points in 82 games just this past season.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what kind of season Raymond can put together for the Red Wings in 2026-27. If he hits a new level offensively, it would be great news for the Original Six club.
