June is a busy month for the NHL

The Stanley Cup Playoffs come to an end in June. While it likely seems that the hockey season hits a lull at this time, June is a busy and exciting time period.

Scouting Combine

Dates: June 1 - 7

The NHL Scouting Combine takes place early in June and is held in Buffalo, NJ. This period gives teams the opportunity to evaluate players through interviews, fitness testing, medical examinations, and data analysis.

Arbitration & Buyout Period

Dates: June 15

Notifications for the first club-elected salary arbitration must go out by 5:00 p.m. The first buyout period also begins. However, if the postseason has not ended by this date, these events will be pushed back to 48 hours after the completion of the Stanley Cup Finals.

NHL Entry Draft

Dates: June 27 - 28, 2025

The first round of the draft begins on Friday, June 27 at 7:00 p.m. The second through seventh rounds will take place on the following day.

The Red Wings have nine picks available to them in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
