After a chaotic back and forth between insiders last week, insider Sean Shapiro confirmed that the Detroit Red Wings have interviewed multiple general manager candidates.
Shapiro's mailbag on his Substack revealed multiple names in Detroit's GM search.
"The team is currently conducting interviews, and from my understanding in the hockey world Florida AGM Brett Peterson, San Jose AGM Jeff Kealty, and Dallas AGM Scott White have all been looked at by the Red Wings/TurnkeyZRG," said Shapiro.
"We also have pretty strong indications that Jeff Greenberg, the Tigers GM, is in the running for the job."
Candidates like Peterson and Kealy have been mentioned before by other NHL insiders, though this is the first time Scott White's name has come up in conversations. Again and again, Jeff Greenberg's name appears in reports.

Who the newest Red Wings GM candidates are
Of all the names mentioned as candidates before, perhaps no other is as exciting as Scott White of the Dallas Stars. White is the assistant general manager of the Dallas Stars, having served as the general manager of their AHL affiliate, the Texas Stars, since the 2009-10 season. In that time, he's won the Stars a Calder Cup and played a direct role in helping the Dallas Stars make their way to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2020.
White is the main reason the Stars have been able to find so much depth at the NHL level. While Jim Nill handles major deals like the Mikko Rantanen trade, White helps to build out the depth at the AHL level. He's been responsible for the development of players like Wyatt Johnston, Jason Robertson and Jake Oettinger. His most recent success, Justin Hryckowian, was a college free agent not too long ago.
White already interviewed for two GM roles this summer: one with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and another with the Nashville Predators. While he didn't wind up getting those roles, this could become a blessing in disguise for the Red Wings, who desperately need a good leader to step up to the plate. White could provide that solution.
Jeff Greenberg's ties to the Ilitch organization
On the other side of the spectrum sits Jeff Greenberg, current general manager of the Detroit Tigers. Greenberg has experience across multiple sports, having served as the general manager of both the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Blackhawks. He's already familiar with CEO and owner Chris Ilitch and knows exactly how Ilitch prefers his organizations to run. Best of all, he's already found success with the Tigers, having transformed a rebuilding organization into a consistent playoff contender.
With that said, questions remain regarding the transition to hockey. Greenberg was only AGM of the Blackhawks for one season before joining the Tigers. It's unclear what kind of approach he'd bring to the Red Wings, much less what he'd do that might conflict with Ilitch. Either way, the fact that his name has come up multiple times suggests that he'll likely be one of the finalists for htis role.
