Star power pushes the Griffins onward
These are the regular season scoring leaders for the Griffins:
Player | Position | Games Played | Goals | Assists | Total Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
John Leonard | Wing | 47 | 33 | 21 | 54 |
Sheldon Dries | Center/Left Wing | 57 | 23 | 22 | 45` |
Michael Brandsegg-Nygård | Wing | 60 | 20 | 24 | 44 |
Eduards Tralmarks | Forward | 64 | 26 | 16 | 42 |
Amadeus Lombari | Center/Left Wing | 47 | 16 | 26 | 42 |
Of all these players, Tralmarks has been the biggest surprise. Despite things not working out thus far at the NHL level, his performance in the Olympics likely warrants a look in the NHL somewhere.
In the post season, all five of these forwards should continue their offensive outputs. Leonard, who missed games due to both the veteran rule and being recalled to Detroit throughout the season, still finished second in AHL goals with 33. He came in second to Arthur Kaliyev, who scored an impressive 40 goals this season. That said, Kaliyev played 70 games where Leonard played just 47.
Plenty of offense should be driven from the back end as well, with the likes of Sandin-Pellikka and Gustafsson driving up the ice. Shoot, even Cossa has had an assist this season (maybe more).
In stark contrast to last season, this Griffins team seems prepared and hungry.
