Dylan Larkin has been one of the Detroit Red Wings' top players for over a decade. He's been a familiar face throughout this endless playoff drought, and he's always been one of the most productive players out there.

He's also no stranger to the global stage, so it was no surprise for fans when Larkin made the cut for Team USA. The staff at NHL.com said it best, noting that Larkin "has been a USA Hockey regular since 2013, when he made his debut in the red, white, and blue at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge."

He provides a veteran presence for Team USA, and that alone is a valuable asset. Larkin also possesses traits that make him one of the most versatile players on the team, including his skating and scoring prowess. That ability could make him a true wild card in the lineup, as he can fill multiple roles, if needed.

Dylan Larkin's lightning-fast skating will be an incredible asset

Regardless of which line he's playing on, Larkin's blazing speed will make him hard to defend. It's one of the key reasons he routinely attains elite productivity at the NHL level. He's constantly getting open and finding shooting lanes, so it's no surprise that he has 30-plus goals in each of the last four seasons. This year, he's on pace to shatter 30 goals again, with 21 in 42 games.

Larkin's speed isn't solely useful when the Wings are in the offensive zone. In the defensive zone, that speed lets him retrieve loose pucks. When opponents look like they're about to break through and challenge Red Wings goaltenders, Larkin's backcheck ability comes into play.

His skating also makes him one of the best players in the league when in transition. That also makes him an efficient three-zone player who will come in handy for Team USA.

Larkin's flexibility to play anywhere in the lineup is another key trait

Dylan Larkin is naturally a center, but he's versatile enough to kick out and play wing if needed. Should Team USA roll with players like Auston Matthews or Jack Hughes at center, Larkin, without hesitation, would line up as a winger.

Larkin's intensity and high-energy play also make him an ideal fit on the lower lines of a star-studded Team USA. If the Americans need a spark, he can also shift into a top-six role, show off his blinding speed, and find ways to score.

As captain of the Detroit Red Wings, Larkin is one of the most respected players in hockey, and he exemplifies sound leadership skills. Now that he's in his age-29 season with 11 years in the league, he's one player general manager Bill Guerin expects to be a role model for some of the youngsters hitting the Olympic stage.

Larkin earned a spot on Team USA with his elite point productivity. His fast skating, two-way play, and experience on the global stage are all traits that will make him one of the most valuable players for the Americans when they square off against opponents in Milan.
