Dylan Larkin has already made a solid case for himself to be considered one of the most respected players to don the Winged Wheel. But he has the opportunity to take a massive step closer to becoming a legend in the history books of the Detroit Red Wings.

It didn't take long for fans and management alike to realize that Larkin was likely going to take over as successor to Henrik Zetterberg as team captain, but that's not where his legacy starts with the Red Wings.

His legacy really starts in his rookie year, when, during the 2015 NHL All-Star Game, Larkin broke the NHL speed record originally held by Mike Gartner since 1996. Since then, he's done nothing but shoot up the Red Wings record list and shows no signs of stopping any time soon.

Larkin is already poised to break into the Red Wings' top-10 goal scorers in franchise history, and already holds the top spot for most points scored by an American-born player in franchise history. However, in the upcoming 2025-26 season, Larkin can surpass for 10th all-time in points in franchise history with a simple 58-point season.

Not a matter of if, but when

For a long time, Larkin has been one of, if not the best, players on the Red Wings, and he's proved that every year. Lately, he's proved that to everybody by scoring goals and a lot of goals. In the 2024-25 season, we saw him become the ninth player in Red Wings history to score four consecutive 30-goal seasons, a feat that a Red Wings player hadn't achieved since Henrik Zetterberg did the same from 2005-06 to 2008-09. It also marked his fifth 30-plus goal season in his career.

These feats and his overall consistent level of scoring have pushed him ever closer to passing Brendan Shanahan for 10th all-time in Red Wings points. The continuous evolution of his linemates has also made a noticeable change in his scoring.

It's no coincidence that after Lucas Raymond showed up during the 2021-22 season that Larkin went from a 48-point Average to a 71-point average. Shocking that going from having Adam Erne to Lucas Raymond on your wing would help you, but hey, I don't make the rules.

With the likelihood that Larkin will be a lifelong Red Wing basically a certainty, he wiill likely continue to climb the Red Wings record charts. In fact, if he has another 70-point campaign in the 2025-26 season, He can pass both Ted Lindsay and Norm Ullman in all-time points with a 56-point 2026-27 season to hold eighth all-time in Red Wings scoring.

When it's all said and done, Dylan Larkin will have a legendary career permanently etched in Red wing history for future generations to learn about.
