Red Wings @ Bruins
2-3 Bruins OT Win
SOG: 25-35 Bruins
Starting Goaltenders: Ville Husso v Joonas Korpisalo
The Red Wings head to Boston to take on a hot Bruins team looking to keep their momentum going and hold on to their Atlantic division spot. The Red Wings also look to keep themselves in the playoff picture and not lose ground on an Atlantic division opponent. Johansson would once again be the health scratch, and the recently recalled Sebastian Cossa would be backing up Ville Husso for the first time in his young career.
The first period was a lot more of the same as we've seen from the Red Wings. Boston had more of a jump to start the game and pressed the Red Wings quite a bit for the first 5 minutes. Thankfully, the Red Wings would wake up a bit and push the Bruins and would score thanks to a fantastic shot by Lucas Raymond (8), assisted by Simon Edvinsson (8) for the 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, that lead would be short-lived as Nikita Zadorov shot an absolute rocket past Husso just over a minute later to tie it at 1-1. It would remain 1-1 for the remainder of the period.
The second period happened. That's about all I can say. The Red Wings don't make many of their games very watchable, and the Bruins, no matter how hot they are right now, are still largely a mess of a team. Both teams would exchange chances, but like I said, nothing massive happened. The game would remain tied at 1-1 going into the 3rd period.
The third period started with a 2nd goal from Lucas Raymond (9), who found himself alone in the slot and made no mistake to fire it home past Korpisalo, assisted by Michael Rasmussen (4) and Simon Edvinsson (9) to take the 2-1 lead. The Bruins would kick up the pressure as the Red Wings would once again park the bus entirely and just let the Bruins have all the offense and shell the crap out of Husso for the rest of the period. Shocker led to Ben Chiarot taking a penalty, and Justin Brazeau would make short work of the PK by scoring just 4 seconds into the powerplay to tie the game at 2-2. Both teams would press for offense, but the score would remain tied at 2-2, and we would head into overtime.
Once again, Overtime is overtime in the NHL. The only notable thing the Red Wings did was a Dylan Larkin breakaway that would ring the goalpost just under 30 seconds into OT. Unfortunately, after a missed call on the Bruins, Pavel Zacha would score to give the Bruins the 3-2 win.
Boy, these games suck. At least the Red Wings gave us goals in the game against Vancouver; these 1-2 goal-scoring games suck, and it's not like the Red Wings are playing exciting hockey, either. Most of these games are the team playing lifelessly with only the top line to give fans any energy.
