Red Wings forwards who carried Detroit (and the ones who cost them)

The Red Wings offense was a 50/50 split this season. But how did their overall play stack up against their fellow teammates.

The fourth line did what they needed to do

Tyler Motte: A+

Tyler Motte was a fourth-line grinder who was relentless when chasing the puck and played with tons of energy all the time. There's not much else to say about Motte other than he was exactly what you expected him to be.

Austin Watson: A

Austin Watson didn't see much of the main roster this season, but when he was recalled later in the season he actually made a decent difference. He scored some of the dirtiest and unconventional goals I've ever seen.

He was also a bit of a deterrent, being the Red Wings' "Big Bad" that other teams had to deal with if they got too out of control. He played his role and played it well. What else is there to be said?

Craig Smith: A-

Yzerman acquired Smith at the trade deadline, replacing Joe Veleno on the fourth line. He wasn't on the team long enough to show on the scoresheet, but he played the role of a quintessential fourth liner. High octane 100% effort all the time, and that's more than you could say for most of the roster all season.
