The Red Wings haven’t been that good of a hockey team in 2024-25, so not all of the three players listed below would have made it to the 2025 All-Star Game simultaneously if the NHL hosted one. Still, all had the potential to make one if the league wasn’t holding the 4 Nations Face-Off.
All three players had been enjoying an outstanding season to date, or at least one in which they played a solid role keeping the team relevant. That said, one of those listed will be repping the Wings in the Face-Off, and he would’ve likely been their representative at the All-Star Game.
Before we talk about him, let’s check in on one defenseman and, yes, even a goaltender first.
Moritz Seider
Moritz Seider would’ve been a longshot to have made the All-Star Game regardless, and his only hope of repping the Wings meant he’d have filled in for at least one injured player should such a situation have risen.
Still, he’s been enjoying a good year, with four goals and 31 points, 25:05 of average total ice time, 112 blocks, and 136 hits. Seider has been the team’s second-best playmaker, and he’s remained a force regardless of the situation and where he’s at on the ice.
Cam Talbot
Cam Talbot’s age-37 season has been one reason the Wings have stuck around in contention despite their current spot in the standings. In 26 starts and 28 games, Talbot has a 0.615 quality starts percentage, a pair of shutouts, a 0.906 save percentage, a 2.86 GAA, and has kept the No. 1 goaltender spot down pat.
No, these aren’t All-Star numbers compared to some of the best goaltenders in the conference or, by extension, the league. So, like Seider, unless there were a few injuries, this honorable mention wouldn’t have made the festivities. But he’s still proven to be one of the league’s upper-echelon netminders.
Lucas Raymond
Yes, he’s one of the Red Wings who you’ll see in the 4 Nations Face-Off, and rightfully so. While it took Lucas Raymond a while to find the net consistently this season, he’s still rocking a 17.7 shooting percentage as of Tuesday, with 56 points and 20 goals in 50 games.
If he keeps this pace up, prepare to see Raymond hit the 90-plus-point mark, and it wouldn’t be a shocker if he hit 35 goals. No, he may not be repping the Wings at any All-Star Game this season, but most of us would probably rather see him giving it his all in the 4 Nations, which should field a more entertaining product.
