The Detroit Red Wings should cave and sign Patrick Kane.

The Detroit Red Wings should bite the bullet on what it might cost and try to lock down a deal with Patrick Kane. The added offense and veteran presence boost would be a welcomed addition to the team’s top six.

Kane is still a free agent and has yet to find a team. Detroit was reported as one of the teams who has been monitoring him, but no one has pounced to sign the soon-to-be 35-year-old forward. The longtime Chicago Blackhawks forward was dealt last year, chasing another Stanley Cup with the New York Rangers.

Kane still managed 21 goals and 36 assists for 57 total points over 71 games played between his time with the Blackhawks and Rangers in 2022- 23. There’s no reason that Detroit would not benefit from some added offense. They already have a good bit of offensive influx in 2023-24, but why would they not add more?

Detroit should consider taking a chance on the veteran forward. He could be reunited with Alex DeBrincat and hope to breathe more offense into the Red Wings’ mix. Early in the year, Detroit was scoring at a nearly historic pace, but things have cooled off a bit since then.

While not everyone is a fan of Kane, his output on the ice would be a welcome addition to the Red Wings’ forward core. The Red Wings could spend some money to add another weapon. Whether he’s 35 years old or not, Kane has been a perennial scoring forward for the past 16 years, so I’m sure he’s got some offense left in the tank.

Detroit wants to compete and go toe-to-toe with a team in a best-of-seven match-up next spring. Adding Kane would give the Red Wings a boost in their attempt to accomplish this.
