Detroit Red Wings hoping David Perron can continue with production
The Detroit Red Wings hope that David Perron can come out and get the job done again. Perron was brought in before the 2022-23 season and is slated to take home $4.75 million in the last year of his contract with Detroit.
Perron is heading into the year 17 of the NHL, having gone through 16 seasons in the NHL with six different squads. He’s in year two of his deal with Detroit and has been a welcome addition to the team’s forward core.
If the Red Wings can get Perron involved once again in 2023-24, seeing him produce as well as he had in year one, things will go well. He was able to tap into some veteran production, and with the improvements elsewhere in Detroit, there’s reason to believe that Perron can continue his production.
Perron’s going to thrive with Detroit’s new and improved team. He has a chance to get the job done with his team and be an essential piece of the puzzle in 5-on-5 situations, but also with a man advantage as well.
Detroit Red Wings are hopeful for year two with David Perron.
Perron is coming off of the 2022-23 season, where he played in all 82 games with the Red Wings. He scored 24 goals and added 32 assists for 56 total points on the season—a nice breath of offense for the Red Wings’ forward core, which was much needed.
As the Red Wings look to take further steps toward a return to the playoffs this year, Perron will be needed again. Sure, the Red Wings beefed things up elsewhere with players like Alex DeBrincat and JT Compher, who were brought in this off-season, but they still need to see production throughout the offense.
Perron is a veteran who knows his way around the National Hockey League (NHL); he needs to prove himself and prove that he can continue to perform at a high rate. Expect Perron to settle in well once again.
He will bring a boost of offense but also help the morale and locker room chemistry. It was clear last year that he was a good fit for Detroit in his time with the Red Wings, blending in well with the locker room.
In year two with Detroit, expect more of the same, seeing Perron come out and find some offense to add depth and also showing that much-needed locker-room presence. Year two could be another excellent year for Perron if all goes well.
