Detroit Red Wings: Carter Mazur’s strong finish could lead to exciting future

The Detroit Red Wings signed Carter Mazur to his entry-level contract and got him into the organization after his final season with the University of Denver concluded. Mazur, a former third-round pick of the Red Wings, had put together an impressive season at the NCAA level.
Before joining the Red Wings on his entry-level deal, Mazur played in 40 games, where he scored 22 goals and added 15 assists for 37 total points. This comes while playing in one of the toughest conferences in all of hockey, the NCHC, which is comparable to the SEC in football, in my opinion, at least.
Mazur was a focal point in the Pioneers’ offense, and he could jump into the organization and get going right away. He may have only played in six games for the Grand Rapids Griffins in 2022-23, but he scored three goals and added three assists for a point-per-game pace.
He made his presence known and did a good job settling in with the Griffins at the AHL level as part of the Red Wings organization and proving that he might be a piece that contributes to the Red Wings’ forward core sooner than later.

There’s plenty to like with the offensively-gifted forward, and he has a bright future as things stand. He’s someone who can make things happen in the offensive zone and can manufacture offense overall.
Mazur will have his chance to try and keep developing and acclimate to the AHL level alongside the Grand Rapids Griffins. Mazur has an offensive skill set that really showed and played well at the collegiate level.
On top of that, the forward jumped in with the Griffins and was pretty darn impressive after getting into the Red Wings organization. He’s undoubtedly someone the Red Wings will give some looks in training camp.
He is not a sure bet to make the NHL roster coming out of training camp, but he’s someone who is going to get a shot to do so. With a strong showing late this summer and into the fall as things get ramped up.
The biggest thing the team is hoping for is going to be growth. Being able to see Mazur jump into the organization and see his offensive tools translate over the course of an extended period at the AHL level.

There’s plenty to be excited about in Mazur’s game, and if he can get into a groove with the Griffins, assuming he does not make the NHL squad, he might make some noise this fall.
