The Detroit Red Wings have to look forward to later this summer and fall when Marco Kasper can get back on the ice and work to try and cement a role with the team heading into the 2023-24 season.

If there’s one thing that can be said about the Detroit Red Wings and Kasper, it’s that he will be entertaining to watch. While he’s played in all of one game with the Red Wings, he was already finding ways to get involved and show why he will be fun to watch.

In fact, one of the things that come to mind is when Kasper got into it along the boards, and Moritz Seider, Lucas Raymond, and Simon Edvinsson were all involved. It was like watching the future of Red Wings hockey, and they were out there battling it out.

Kasper played in one NHL game where he suffered an injury and was forced to miss the rest of the season. He needed some time off to rest up and recover, and it sounds like he will be ready to rock’n’roll come training camp.

Detroit Red Wings prospect Marco Kasper is going to be special.

The Red Wings scooped up Kasper with the eighth overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, and the Austrian forward is one of those players with a really high ceiling that he can tap into if all goes well.

In 2021-22, Kasper spent his time in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) with Rögle BK, playing in 52 games where he scored eight goals, adding 15 assists for 23 total points on the campaign.

He showed why he could be considered a playmaker and really be a problem overall for opposing teams. In the offensive zone, he’s toolsy with agility on the skates and the knowledge/IQ to find the open man or create some space to open up opportunities for scoring chances.

While Kasper has to earn his way onto the roster, similar to what Lucas Raymond did in the past with the Red Wings, there’s an extremely high chance he’s in the team’s forward core come the 2023-24 opening night.

There’s going to be a youth movement in Detroit. It’s already been started with Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider, who will both need to be paid. But following them up is Simon Edvinsson, who got his chances in 2022-23, and now Kasper, who played the one game but is going to be hungry for more.

On top of that, there are supporting cast members like Jonatan Berggren and Elmer Söderblom, who will make the Red Wings a really fun team to watch this fall. It will be cool to get Kasper into the lineup and see how he does wearing the winged wheel this fall.
