Detroit Red Wings: Can Moritz Seider continue his rise to stardom?

The Detroit Red Wings have to be thrilled with the output of their German defender to this point in his career. Moritz Seider has done an impeccable job settling in. Even after a rough second season with the Red Wings, there’s plenty of reason to believe he is rising to stardom.

Seider has not missed a single game through his first two seasons wearing the winged wheel and patrolling the blueline for the Detroit Red Wings. He has played in all 82 games in each of his first two seasons as a Red Wings defender.

The former sixth overall pick was a shock to many when he was selected by the Red Wings in 2019, but since then, he has become a fan favorite and won over the hearts of the Red Wings faithful as he continues to take strides.

He was the Calder Trophy winner during the 2021-22 season, and though he slumped a bit during the 2022-23 season, he was still able to settle in nicely, and the Red Wings have to be looking forward to what he can do moving forward.

In 2022-23, Seider played all 82 games, scoring five goals and adding 37 assists for 42 total points. It was an eight-point regression, but all told, it is really not a big deal. Overall he was still an integral part of the team’s defense core.

He even found himself a defense partner this season. He played alongside Jake Walman, who ended up earning a contract extension himself. The two found some great chemistry and settled in as a big piece of the puzzle for the Red Wings.

There has to be some excitement about what Seider can continue to do. He has the projection to end up having a lengthy career as a prominent defender across the league; he just needs to keep climbing.

As the Red Wings keep moving forward, there is more than enough reason to believe that Seider can continue to rise through the ranks and end up being one of the NHL’s stars of today amongst defenders.

He’s already one of the up-and-coming youngsters who has settled in nicely; he just needs to keep progressing. Seider has the makings of a top-pairing defender and is easily in consideration to be one of the top defensemen in the league a few years from now.

There’s so much to like with Seider’s game; he is just scratching the surface of what he can be. It will be interesting to see what he can accomplish in year three with the Red Wings.
