The Detroit Red Wings brought in David Perron before the 2022-23 season on a two-year contract. So far, this contract looks like one that the Red Wings will be happy about, which is seldom said about a 34-year-old player.

The Detroit Red Wings have Perron locked in for the 2023-24 season with a $4.75 million cap hit. It’s a deal that has worked out incredibly well for the Red Wings so far and bodes well for next season as well.

He provided a nice boost of offense as the second-highest scorer on the team during the 2022-23 season. He was second in goals, fourth in assists, and second in total points, behind only Dylan Larkin, who finished the season at 79 total points, silencing some critics.

Perron finished the 2022-23 season with 24 goals and 32 assists for 56 total points while staying healthy over all 82 games. He played the entire season and provided plenty for the Red Wings to be excited about another season of Perron being part of the Red Wings team.

Detroit Red Wings forward David Perron has been exceptional.

One of the things that the Red Wings have to be happy about is how the team has been able to squeeze value out of the veteran. He has been able to thrive in the Red Wings’ top six and as part of the team’s top powerplay unit in 2022-23.

On top of that, the veteran winger also provided many benefits off the ice for the Red Wings. He has really done an excellent job being a big part of the team’s off-the-ice camaraderie. Perron’s helped the team’s morale and has contributed positively to the team’s locker room chemistry.

He’s brought that veteran presence as well as being able to share their experience with the younger players, especially when the Red Wings were competing and trying to fight for a postseason spot.

As the team looks ahead, the Red Wings have to be excited about what Perron can bring to the table in 2023-24. He was a massive part of the team’s 2022-23 season in terms of all-around performance and is trying to do the same this season.

The Red Wings are trying to continue to squeeze as much value as they possibly can out of the 34-year-old veteran winger. He was just shy of the 25-goal mark and really was able to tap into some scoring this season, so they have to be hoping he can do it again in 2023-24.
