Detroit Red Wings: Ville Husso posts a shutout in first-game back

The Detroit Red Wings were able to cruise to an easy victory during their match-up with the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night. While the Red Wings had their foot on the gas all game long, it was Ville Husso who was able to complete the shutout.

This comes in Ville Husso‘s first game back with the Detroit Red Wings after missing time with a lower-body injury. The team’s primary netminder has been ridden hard by the Red Wings, and it seems that it ended up catching up with him.

Husso was able to come back strong, though. He made some excellent stops against the Canadiens and completed a 24-save shutout, stopping every shot he faced—quite the return to the ice from the Red Wings goaltender.

The Red Wings are in the home stretch, with just five games to go in the campaign. With Husso back in net, the Red Wings hope to finish strong and end things on a high note. They have a couple of tough match-ups, and it will be interesting to see how things shake out.

Husso has played in 52 games in 2022-23 after Tuesday’s shutout win over the Habs. Husso improved to 26-19-6 with a 2.96 goals-against average. He has a .901 save percentage as well after the victory.

It was Husso’s fourth shutout of the season, continuing to improve his career-best. After missing time, it was good for him to get an easier night against the Canadiens and be able to make all the stops and come out on top with a shutout.

On the flip side, the Husso activation means that Alex Nedeljkovic had to go back down to the AHL due to his call-up being an emergency call-up.

The Red Wings have used all of their call-ups for the season, so they have to roll the dice with Husso and Magnus Hellberg the rest of the way, barring another IR stint from one of the team’s netminders.

Nedeljkovic played well in his return to Detroit, settling in nicely after finding his game with Grand Rapids. He had returned to Detroit and started to get his looks in once again. However, the Red Wings will rely on the Husso/Hellberg tandem the rest of the way.

But after the 2022-32 season, it seems that Husso will be fine and able to be relied upon as the team continues to put the finishing touches on this campaign.
