The Detroit Red Wings are struggling a bit as of late, and over the last month, things have started to take a nosedive off the deep end. The Red Wings are hoping that they can get things back on track. One of their forwards has fallen silent after being solid to start the season.
Jonatan Berggren was able to make the Detroit Red Wings roster and settle in after his NHL debut. For the Red Wings, it was good to see Berggren get some time with the NHL club, starting to settle in and show why he was regarded as one of the team’s better prospects.
After all, the offense was showing early, and the tools he showed in the offensive zone were quite exciting as he started his career. But as of late, the opposition has been able to hold Berggren off the scoresheet as he has been pretty quiet.
He had four goals and an assist over 19 games since February began. Even worse, in just over the last month on the calendar, Berggren has logged 13 games with just one goal and one assist while being a minus-8 on the ice.

While it’s not a huge reason to be concerned, there has been a steep decline in Berggren’s statistical performance since February began. He has been unable to find the back of the net or get his play-making abilities working for him.
Part of this may just be because of all the trades and roster switch-up that left him with new linemates, as well as the decline of the team’s performance outside of just him. But Berggren has not been as sharp as he was when he broke into the NHL.
It’s his first season; it is more than okay to see Berggren have a rough patch to the season. Berggren has played in 53 games during his rookie campaign, with 12 goals and 11 assists for 23 total points.
It’s not too shabby for a rookie campaign. At times, he has shown that he can be a future top-six asset as he continues to settle in and tap into his high-hockey IQ. His abilities to make things happen in the offensive zone will pay dividends in the coming years; the big thing will be ironing things out to be productive on the scoresheet.
Berggren falling silent on the scoresheet sucks and is worth noting. However, it’s not a reason to be concerned or to start panicking over it.
