The Detroit Red Wings stay hot as the 2022-23 season trudges on. The team took home a 4-1 victory over the New York Rangers on Thursday night, and the offense continues to find ways to get it done.
Michael Rasmussen has been one of the players who has really stepped up. He’s started to cement his role and find ways to be productive with the Detroit Red Wings forward core, something the organization must be thankful about.
Things have been working quite efficiently as the Red Wings are 7-3-0 in their last ten with 34 goals for during that time. The Red Wings have a ton of momentum with the locker room in a great spot, now is the time to make a statement and continue rising through the standings.
For Rasmussen, this means finding ways to get things done offensively. It’s not just putting up points, but he has done an exceptional job of disrupting the opposition, whether it’s as a forechecker or just Ras’ being Ras’ and fighting for position in front of the net.
Even then, he has done a great job getting involved in puck battles and being able to come away with the puck. The Red Wings must be happy with how things are going for their 23-year-old forward, whose offense is finally starting to click.
Detroit Red Wings forward Michael Rasmussen is settling in nicely.
Going into the game against the Rangers, Rasmussen was sitting at nine goals and 18 assists for 27 total points over 54 games. He picked up a goal and two assists against New York, hit the 10-goal threshold, and captured his 30th point.
With plenty of time left in this season, Rasmussen has eclipsed his career-high in points and is looking to set new highs as the Red Wings keep pushing along in the Wildcard hunt. There has to be a lot of belief in this Red Wings squad overall and in Rasmussen.
The Red Wings forward has had high hopes surrounding him since he was brought into the organization as a ninth overall draft pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. He has had his fair share of struggles, but to his credit, he has molded himself into an NHLer who will be a piece of this puzzle moving forward.
Rasmussen took significant leaps in his development, and in 2022-23 he’s taken even more of a leap in his caliber of play. With plenty of time left, it will be fun to see how Rasmussen continues to progress with Red Wings.
The Red Wings are going to need everyone functioning at 100% to push themselves into the playoffs, so Rasmussen continues to tap into his offense and be a benefit to the forward core is going to be important.
