Detroit Red Wings: David Perron tallies 700th career point in Calgary
The Detroit Red Wings are on a roll right now. After a shootout victory in Edmonton and a good win in Calgary, the Red Wings were able to sweep the Western Canada leg of their road trip as they continue to play exceptionally well.
But beyond that, there was something to recognize outside the win column in Thursday’s contest against the Flames. Detroit Red Wings forward David Perron collected his 700th career point after adding an assist on Robby Fabbri’s power-play goal.
The 34-year-old forward continues to be a true asset for the Red Wings as the 2022-23 season continues on. He was one of the Red Wings’ off-season additions when Steve Yzerman went out and signed him. The deal has looked good on paper, as he’s been a huge veteran addition to this team.
It was a great move by the Red Wings to add Perron; frankly, his value has shown quite often this season. The 700th career point just speaks to the kind of player Perron is. Obviously, those points have all come with other teams; it’s the veteran presence that really makes him valuable.
Detroit Red Wings forward David Perron tallies 700th career point.
In his time with the Red Wings, Perron has played in all 54 games, where he has 14 goals and 21 assists for 35 total points. He has five points during the Red Wings’ win streak, and even though they are all assists, he continues to find ways to get the job done.
He may not be shining in the offense or be the golden ticket, but he has continued to get the job done as a distributor with the puck. He’s been solid on the power play as well, finding the open man and helping create scoring chances.
Perron almost had two assists in Thursday night’s game. In the Red Wings’ impressive power-play goal, where Tyler Bertuzzi found the back of the net, Perron had a good play along the boards to keep the puck in and ultimately start the play that led to the goal.
As the 2022-23 season continues on, the Red Wings have to be hoping that Perron can bring his veteran presence to the table. The Red Wings will need Perron to help keep this locker room in the mindset.
The vibes are high, and the Red Wings have a ton of momentum right now. Hopefully, Perron and the rest of the team can keep things going in the right direction.
