The Detroit Red Wings will host the Winnipeg Jets Tuesday at Little Caesars Arena. Detroit is hoping to snap a three-game losing streak while the Jets look to build on their current five-game win streak.
The Red Wings received some good news Monday; forward Tyler Bertuzzi is expected to return to the lineup following surgery to repair a broken hand. Oddly enough, Bertuzzi has broken both hands this season, forcing him to miss significant time. The soon-to-be 28-year-old forward is expected to return to Detroit’s top line alongside captain Dylan Larkin and second-year forward Lucas Raymond.
The Detroit Red Wings bring a home record of 9-8-3 to the contest and are 16-15-7 overall this season. The Jets are 10-7-1 on the road in 2022-23 and 26-13-1 overall. Detroit will look to rebound from a brutal 4-1 loss in Toronto against the Leafs this past Saturday night, which was the second of a back-to-back. It also concluded a three-game in four days stretch for the club.
To make room on the active roster for Bertuzzi, the Detroit Red Wings sent rookie forward Elmer Soderblom down to the Grand Rapids Griffins. Soderblom has performed exceptionally well of late for the Red Wings scoring three goals and adding three assists over his last ten games. Soderblom will garner more consistent minutes with the Griffins, and that will help him work on rounding out his game, especially on the defensive side of things, before he’s needed again in Detroit.
Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin leads the team with 13 goals and 33 points. Defenseman Filip Hronek is second on the club with 29 points, including 22 assists. The Red Wings have been playing well during five-on-five situations, but their special teams’ play of late has been nothing short of atrocious.
Detroit enters the contest with a subpar penalty kill, performing at a 75.2% success rate on the season. Detroit’s power play is operating at a 19.5% clip, a mere 3% below the league average. On the other hand, the Jets’ power play is maintaining a 23.6% success rate to go along with a penalty kill of nearly 83%, which is almost 6% better than the league average.
The Detroit Red Wings currently rank 24th in the NHL with 114 total goals scored and 20th, having allowed 129 goals. The Jets rank 15th, having scored 132 goals, and second having yielded just 103 goals.
The Jets are led by former Michigan Wolverines forward Kyle Connor. Connor has scored 20 goals and totaled 49 points to date. Next up for the Jets is Pierre-Luc Dubois with 47 points. Defenseman Josh Morrissey is an early Norris Trophy candidate and has tallied seven goals and 46 points on the season while maintaining a solid plus-11 rating.

Prediction: The Detroit Red Wings are amid a three-game skid; a few days off and a quick return home might be what the doctor ordered for Derek Lalonde and company. I am also taking the Under 6.0 tonight with Ville Husso in goal for Detroit, considering the Jets are one of the top defensive teams in the league.
