After a brief hiatus and break from the action, the Detroit Red Wings are slated to take on the Ottawa Senators this afternoon. The Red Wings are coming off that brutal loss to the Wild on the road in Minnesota, making it four losses in a row.

The Detroit Red Wings have a (13-10-6) record, which gives them 32 points which is good for fourth in the Atlantic Division. The Senators have a (13-14-2) record to compare, which is good for eighth in the Atlantic Division.

The Red Wings have been in a rut the last few games; while they played well against the Stars in the overtime loss, it was still a loss. On top of that, they are running out of healthy defensemen with the mounting injuries.

Dylan Larkin also sustained an injury against the Hurricanes when he blocked a shot. He has been out, and no update was given while Larkin takes time to see a specialist. The Red Wings may have the better record, but they may not be on top in this match-up.

Detroit Red Wings game information and prediction vs. Senators

It was a frustrating game on Wednesday and ultimately led to the demise of the Red Wings. Magnus Hellberg made his first start with the team and looked alright, but Ville Husso should be back in the net against Ottawa.

The Senators are on a three-game win streak, fresh from a few days of rest. Their last game was Wednesday when they beat the Montreal Canadiens on home ice. Now the Red Wings are looking to snap Ottawa’s win streak and the Red Wings’ own losing streak. The Senators are also battling some injury issues, so both teams are battered and bruised.

Odds: According to DraftKings, the Detroit Red Wings are the favorite in this game, looking at the Moneyline odds. The Red Wings are -135 to win, with the Ottawa Senators being +115 on the Moneyline. The Senators are the favorite on the Puck Line at +1.5 with -210 odds. The games over/under is currently set at 6, with over holding -115 odds and the under having -105 odds.

Now that we have some of the odds laid out let’s look at the game a bit deeper and offer some predictions.

Prediction: The Red Wings must be hoping to snap out of this funk. Wednesday’s game showed a Red Wings team who played soft. They were running around trying to play physically, leading to a lot of poorly executed plays and a lack of offense. After hitting the reset button and getting back on home ice, I think the Red Wings are going to come out and look to set the tone early.

That said, I’d like to think the Red Wings will get back to how they have shown they can play. Getting pucks on the net and creating meaningful scoring chances, not just throwing shots from the outside and hoping something happens. I like the Red Wings Moneyline.

If you’re feeling bold and think the Red Wings are really going to bounce back, consider the Puck Line, but I’m not so sure about that. With Husso in net, I think the under might be worth a look, especially if it gets bumped to 6.5 before game time.

I think this game will come down to how the first period goes. It will be another long game if the Red Wings come out and struggle to muster up any offense or cannot get any offense going. If the Red Wings bring some energy and can gain some momentum, it seems like one of those games they’ll be able to hold on to the momentum and ride it out.
