San Jose resurrected their predecessor Golden Seals design for their reverse retro jersey, just with their nickname substituted in instead.

This could be considered safe, but I respect the courage to incorporate an entirely different team, as Carolina did with the Whalers.

Plus, the Seals used teal many years before the Sharks, so it is nice to see this marriage. They look so 70s that I half expected to see bell-bottomed hockey pants as part of the uniform. Washington brought back the “screaming eagle” with some changes to striping and coloring. Groovy.

Lastly, before Detroit is discussed, there were some teams who created unique jerseys, not as much based on previous jersey history. Colorado paid respect to its home state by using the Colorado C from the state flag as its primary logo and used the Colorado Rockies’ colors with mountain-type striping.

Florida took the unique powder blue from its 2009 third jersey and took the shoulder patch from many jerseys throughout their history of a sun, stick, and palm tree and made it the primary logo. Combined with their current colors incorporated, you have a unique jersey. St. Louis chose to use a bright yellow jersey base for the first time.

Their primary logo is an unused prototype logo originally drawn by their first general manager. Finally, you have the two franchises that don’t have much history to draw off in Vegas and Seattle. Vegas created a jersey inspired by 1990s NHL jerseys, with a font resembling the famous glitzy Las Vegas signage prevalent throughout the city. Using designs that pay respect to the Excalibur and Stardust hotels helps make this uniform quite cool.

Seattle went more basic, just choosing to make their sea green color more prominent on the body and striping to mimic a wave of water. All-in-all, there were some really inspiring creations.
