The Detroit Red Wings roster is going to look significantly different this upcoming season. But, how different could it actually look?
The Detroit Red Wings roster, although very talented, needs work. With a plethora of names currently set to become free agents, the Red Wings will have quite a bit of work to do this off-season.
The first thing I expected the Red Wings to do is to address the head coach position. After the Red Wings relieved Jeff Blashill of his duties this off-season, the head coach position has been the talk of the town. There has been many, many, many different names thrown around in the conversation but at the end of the day, Yzerman decided to go with Derek Lalonde.
The second thing they will be looking to do is replace the free agents they will be losing this off-season. And by that, I’m referring to Danny DeKeyser, Thomas Greiss, and potentially many more names.
The third thing they need to do is figure out just how many spots they have open on their roster and figure out who can fill those positions.
With names like Simon Edvinsson, Sebastian Cossa, William Wallinder, Jonatan Berggren, Theodor Niederbach, they have to figure out who can play in the NHL this season and who can’t. Once they answer that question, they will have to figure out rather or not they want to go big this off-season or roll out another mediocre team in hopes of getting yet another top 10 pick.
That will be the question of the off-season in my opinion. And that being said, it’s important to plan ahead. So, here’s 10 names that the Red Wings could target.
